Wesley E. (Ed) Barnwell founded KDD Health Solutions in 1997 and serves as its President. With over thirty years experience in the health care sector including serving as a senior executive with a Fortune 100 company, he is a respected proponent of creativity, empowerment and accountability.
As an early innovator in the design of new models of care and payment methodologies, he pioneered the development of community-based networks of physicians and hospitals bound by an infrastructure of technology and measures of governance for managing defined populations of the chronically ill. Such characteristics - seen in today's Accountable Care Organizations - successfully improved clinical and financial performance and were recognized as "best in class" by leading accrediting organizations.
Mr. Barnwell’s operational research in aligning hospitals, physicians and other care providers is featured as a Case Study in Harvard Business
School’s Master of Business Administration Case Study Program, Boston,
MA. Current engagements include working with a nationally-recognized health plan to optimize and demonstrate value of select health benefits to both consumers and employers served.
At the C-suite level, his senior executive experience includes negotiating long term, high value strategic partnerships with multi-billion dollar corporations. He has successfully built and managed executive teams within businesses/business units with P&L responsibility exceeding $2.0 billion annually.
Mr. Barnwell’s work has been distinguished as Best Practice for Chronic Disease Management Systems by the American Accreditation Health Care Commission, URAC; selected by Models of Care: Case Studies in Healthcare Innovation, Best Practice in the Administrative and Clinical Realm; and, nominated for the American Hospital Association’s Nova Award for Innovation in Healthcare.
As an author, his publications include white papers on the value of care process, health care data
analysis, and emerging trends in health reform such as the Accountable
Care Organization and the Patient Centered Medical Home.
